A psychedelic music collective led by bağlama player and multi-instrumentalist Derya Yıldırım, joined by musicians from around the world.

Born in a multicultural neighbourhood in Hamburg, Yıldırım was influenced by her family’s heritage as well as the culture and music of neighbouring communities. She learned to play the bağlama alongside the piano, saxophone, and guitar. The collaboration of Derya Yıldırım and Grup Şimşek, formed in 2014, has continued with two albums and an EP. Thanks in large part to contributions from drummer, percussionist, composer, and marimba artist Greta Eacott, the group interprets the influences from the 1960s and 70s with a contemporary approach to composition and rhythm. Blending Anatolian folk, 1970s Turkish rock, psychedelia, pop, and jazz in perfect proportions, the band has earned a stellar reputation in Germany. This summer, they joined the Big Crown Records family and announced a new album for spring 2025. Now, fresh off a major tour of the United States and just before the release of their new album, they are coming to Salon.
