He became an urban legend every time he visited Istanbul as the guest of Salon İKSV. He was welcomed as a precious stone, rare to find these days, partly because he captures the mood of Istanbul so well. In return for the love that he has found here, Tamino dedicated his last Istanbul concert to the earthquake victims to heal the wounds. Now is the time for his Turkey tour to encompass the three big cities of the country. Now is the time to turn up the volume, to sing ‘Habibi’ and ‘Indigo Night’ louder across the country.
After Ankara and İzmir, the national tour of Tamino will make its finale in Istanbul. Tickets are on sale.
Tamino has managed to form tight bonds with his audience with songs that spring from a well of wisdom, beyond his young age. His wisdom grows with the echoes of his second album Sahar, released last year on 23 September. The grandson of one of Egypt’s most famed singers and film stars Muharrem Fouad, Tamino channels his own lineage, as well as the folk and rock traditions of the Middle East and Europe in his music to defy borders, to put together timeless records.
Created in the wake of the international frenzy that followed his debut album Amir, Sahar was born in Tamino’s Antwerp apartment. Already adept at playing guitar and piano, Tamino took up the oud, an Arabic lute, under the mentorship of a refugee musician. The instrument served as a key tool in the songwriting process, and provides a melancholic soundscape that is threaded throughout the project. The record is a distillation of Tamino’s solitary reflections, and a product of work with close collaborators including Radiohead bassist Colin Greenwood, producer/engineer PJ Maertens, and drummer Ruben Vanhoutte.
On stage before Tamino: Loverman
Just like Tamino, Loverman lives in Belgium and in his songs, he uncovers a lyrical, delicate and introverted acoustic universe. He is preparing to take a firm step into the music world with his debut album Lovesongs. The singles preceding the album that is due out on 27 October are addictive. The hazy landscapes that Loverman managed to capture have been compared to those of Nick Drake, and his reassuring vocals, uniquely personal yet universal lyrics to Leonard Cohen. Take note of it: Loverman will soon create a storm of excitement like Tamino, and in this rare occasion, will travel Turkey as Tamino’s supporting act.
