Glass Beams

Glass Beams

The enigmatic trio from Melbourne, Australia, who will be the new favourite of Khruangbin lovers.

Although it’s been a short time since their debut in 2021, Glass Beams has created a new wave of psychedelic music with their hypnotic performances at festivals such as Primavera Sound and Best Kept Secret. Rajan Silva, the founding member of the band, laid out his map for their first EP Mirage, found the Indian city his father left behind to emigrate to Australia when he was 17, and set out to listen to the musicians who left their mark on the region. He became acquainted with the psychedelic, classical disco and freaky jazz influences of Indian pop in the 70s, and the Western interpretations of the sitar. An album was inevitable. The 20-minute ‘sessions’ that they saved exclusively for their live audience were so popular that they were recorded by their fans, leaked to the internet and listened to millions of times. Glass Beams did not leave this gesture of their fans unrequited, and finally recorded their most popular improvisations for their new EP Mahal, which will be released on 22 March.

Glass Beams praised the Turkey crowd’s ability to ‘sing guitar melodies and echoing vocal chants’ in an interview with Rolling Stone before their performance at India’s Magnetic Fields. They are now coming to their beloved Istanbul for a psychedelic voodoo session with the enthusiasm of their new album.
