Birlikte Güzel: Iceage / Before: Audioban Selects: Al’York

Punk, post-punk, punk-rock… The Danish band that expands the spectrum of punk with a point of view which is simultaneously aggressive and romantic.

Iceage arrived into the music scene in 2008, with the line-up consisting of Johan Suurballe Wieth, Dan Kjær Nielsen, Elias Bender Rønnenfelt and Jakob Tvilling Pless, when the members of the band averaged only 17. However, the four-man band’s talent for music was inversely proportional to their average age. They released their first album titled New Brigade in 2011. Their songs infused with their aggressive yet measured, energetic but well-settled, rushed but smart attitudes and their striking live performances helped them reach the top in a short time. The band’s frontman Elias Bender Rønnenfelt has attained a kind of modern bard stature with his romantic and gothic vocals and has even been compared to Mark E. Smith, the undisputed pioneer of the genre. Iceage released their second sophisticated and tough as nails album You’re Nothing in 2013. This album, that bears traces from the post-hardcore scene, won them a listener base in the USA, as well as getting them signed with the renowned independent record label Matador Records. In their third album Plowing into the Field of Love, released from Matador in 2014, wind instruments and keyboards came into play. After the release of this album, Rønnenfelt started to focus on his project Marching Church, depriving us of his presence for a significant amount of time. It's just as well… because they returned with a bang. The fourth and latest Iceage album Beyondless was released in 2018, and it is their most spectacular work so far. Their live performance at the DMZ Peace Train Festival, which was held at the border between North and South Korea last June, became even more stunning with the stage composed of installations by Japanese flower artist Makoto Azuma. Iceage is visiting Turkey for the first time.

For the past two years, we have frequently heard the trio Al’York’s live performances being praised. Al’York brings rock’n’roll from Ankara to Istanbul. The band has played with local bands such as The Ringo Jets and Eskiz, has taken the stage as the opening act for Hanni El Khatib and performed at various festivals. Following the release of their two EPs, the trio from Ankara delighted us yet again last July when they shared their Jacques Dutronc cover, “Le Responsible”.

Pop, gothic, romantic; get ready to see these qualities you can’t easily relate to punk. A theatrical punk-rock feast awaits!

This event has an age restriction of 18.
