Legendary jazz pianist Béla Szakcsi gets together with jazz musicians from Turkey

Began playing the piano as a child. Threw himself into the jazz scene after studying at a conservatory in Budapest. Presented with the secondary prize in the Montreux Jazz Festival of 1970. Took the stages in countless leading venues and festivals in Europe, North America and Asia. Among the admirers of Szakcsi’s talent as a pianist and composer is Chick Corea. Played a pivotal role in the popularisation of fusion jazz in the history of Hungary. Besides, he composed for musicals, operas and bales. He was also an instructor in the Jazz Piano department of Béla Bartók Conservatory for ten years, in pursuit of institutionalizing the fusion of jazz and classical music. His lifetime achievements brought him the Ferenc Liszt and Kossuth awards. He visits Salon to take the stage with a quartet composed of prominent jazz musicians from Turkey, in the first concert organized in the scope of the cultural exchange project between Turkey and Hungary, supported by the Gül Baba Heritage Foundation. The line-up is; Béla Szakcsi Lakatos (piano), Ferit Odman (drums), Tolga Bilgin (trumpet), Engin Recepoğulları (saxophone), Ozan Musluoğlu (bass).
