One of the most prominent local artists when it comes to the saxophone; composer, producer, singer and songwriter.
Korhan Futacı was introduced to the saxophone when he was a student at Istanbul Boys’ High School, where his active musical life began with his school band NaapJazz. He later studied painting at Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University. He gained wider recognition through his saxophone and vocal performances on albums recorded with Tamburada and DANdadaDAN. He went on to found the jazz group Konstrukt and joined the experimental music project Taranta Babu. Through concerts and albums released as Korhan Futacı ve Kara Orkestra, he has become one of the leading figures of local alternative music scene. Futacı has performed at numerous festivals in the country and abroad, from Roskilde to XJAZZ, and at prestigious venues ranging from Paradiso to Radialsystem. His collaborations span a remarkably wide spectrum, including artists and bands such as Çilekeş, Büyük Ev Ablukada, Yasemin Mori, Nova Norda, Gökhan Türkmen, Jehan Barbur, İsmail Tunçbilek, Gazapizm, Thurston Moore, Eric Truffaz, Alan Wilkinson and Okay Temiz. His greatest achievement, one that few musicians can claim, is a powerful and unmistakable style that allows you to recognise his breath the moment you hear a saxophone line, wherever the song may be playing. Recently focusing on his solo work and his free-jazz group Konstrukt, Futacı is preparing to reunite with the Salon İKSV audience this March after a long hiatus.
A night that pushes the boundaries of genre and human breath alike; a salute to the music’s magical darkness and revealing the colours hidden behind resonance.
